Help with Home Projects

odd jobs | repairs | replacements | improvements | maintenance | consultations | DYI guidance | tool lending

Welcome!

Hi, I am John. Jane and I live in your neighborhood at 747 Chidester Ave. Jane has lived in Glen Ellyn for over 30 years, and I have lived here for the past 16 years. I have decided to hang out my shingle to offer high quality home project services, at a fair price, without long lead-times, drama, surprises, or BS.

I am a retired business executive with a passion for old-school craftsmanship with useful innovation. Over the past four decades, as my hobby, I have remodeled several homes, and in the past year I have done more than 100 facilities projects for the Glen Ellyn Park District. I do frame and finish carpentry, most electrical and plumbing, drywall, tile, paint, concrete, odd jobs, repairs, installations, seasonal maintenance, improvements, consultations, do-it-yourself guidance, and tool lending.

With Indian Creek Services I am offering a more friction-free experience to homeowners when they need help with homes projects. My approach is centered on straight talk, responsiveness, higher quality, and lower costs. My goal is to foster an ongoing caretaker relationship as apposed to an emergency driven one-and-done transaction with a random tradesman.

Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to introduce myself and Indian Creek Services to you.

Sincerely,

John Youngs

Examples of some home projects we do:

ODD JOBS:  basement & garage clean-outs, haul away of things you can’t put in your weekly garbage pick-up such as electronics, unused paint, gasoline, oil, pesticides, moving items from your home to a local storage unit, assembly of things you buy like furniture, toys, shelving units, or just about any project you don’t want to do or can’t do for whatever reason.

REPAIRS: fix just about anything that is broken or not working properly in or around your home.

REPLACEMENTS: taking just about anything in or around your home that can’t be repaired and replacing it.

IMPROVEMENTS: replacing outdated doors, windows, woodwork, fixtures. Upgrades to wi-fi/internet, installing new TV’s and home theater systems, adding a bathroom in the basement, expanding outdoor deck space, refurbishing a backyard shed or installing a new one, kitchen and bathroom face-lifts, closet reorganization.

MAINTENANCE: monthly, seasonal, annual; garage doors, dryer vents, water shut offs, electric panels and shut offs, safety inspections of stairs, sidewalks and stairways, chimneys, gutters and downspouts, cleaning of air conditioning units, preparation of patio furniture and grills, outdoor hose and sprinkler hook-ups, bird feeder set up.

CONSULTATIONS: thinking about a repair, replacement, or improvement? We will provide you with a range of options to help you make a sound decision. No matter what you are contemplating, there is usually a good, better, and best option available for evaluation. We will layout the options and objectively walk you through the processes that are involved.

DIY GUIDANCE: Sometimes you’d prefer to do a project yourself but are unsure of how or what tools are needed. We can help you understand the steps, materials and tools needed, and guide you through any do-it-yourself project you would like to tackle.

TOOL LENDING: Included in any DIY Guidance we provide for a project you want to do; we will also lend you the tools you will need to complete the project successfully. Every project in and around the home requires a specific set of tools and the know-how to use them. We will bring the tools to your home when you need them and pick them up when you are done.

History of Glen Ellyn’s Indian Creek: When the first settlers arrived in downtown Glen Ellyn, the land was rockier and more uneven. The valley between Duane Street and Pennsylvania Avenue was deeper, and the hill between Anthony Street and Pennsylvania was higher. There were deep ravines east of Forest Avenue and south of Cottage Avenue. To the south, Baker Hill on Roosevelt Road was so steep that driving up it was considered impressive. However, the biggest change was in the streams.

Several streams flowed into the East Branch of the DuPage River. The main one, called "Indian Creek" here, stayed wet and started in a marsh west of Western Avenue. It was fed by springs and smaller creeks to the south as it flowed through the western parts of the village. Just north of the library, there's a rocky ditch that looks like the old Indian Creek bed. It only fills with water when it rains, and then the water has nowhere to go except into a blocked storm sewer drain in the middle.

Indian Creek passed over the railroad tracks near Prospect and Glenwood Avenues, went through downtown, flowed very close to the intersection of Forest and Pennsylvania Avenues, then ran just north of Pennsylvania. It divided Park Boulevard and turned north toward a large, flat, marshy area. This area was later used as a baseball field and is now called Lake Ellyn.
